A Note From the Executive Director: Tribute to Our Guests
This summer marks the 15th year of our jazz cruise programs. In the scheme of things, that is not a long time. In the context of a theme cruise, it is an eternity. This past weekend I had the opportunity to reflect upon the cruises, the music and our business, and I reached several conclusions that I want to share with each of you:
- Music is a precious gift. This is not a new or even slightly controversial idea, yet to watch 2,000 people cross the gangway onto a ship for seven days and nights, all based upon their collective love of a music genre, is fascinating. Yes, 100,000 people go to a football game and 50,000 people attend a baseball game, but not for seven days and nights!
- The intimacy of the performances enhances the experience. You simply have a better seat and a more intimate interaction with the Artists when sailing on the cruises. This “almost backstage” aspect of the performances knocks down a wall between the performer and the audience, allowing each to feel the mood and sense of the other in a heightened manner.
- Guests, Guests, Guests. The three most important, most profoundly satisfying and the most critical elements of a cruise are the Guests … the Guests … and the Guests! The joy in your eyes. The smiles on your faces. The lovely “thank yous.” For these reasons, we do the cruises. To most of you, it may not matter “why” we do the cruises, and I understand that, but to do something you love and something that makes others happy is a blessing.
We are proud to serve you and to be part of the music world.
